Last week I posted about being outside of my comfort zone. One of the things I talked about in that post which made me uneasy was the idea of running with a new friend. I had gotten an invitation from a friend, that is also training for the Diva Half Marathon, to do our “long run” of the week (which was 5 miles last week), together. I was a little apprehensive at first. I didn’t really know what to expect and I didn’t want to make a fool of myself.
Well, needless to say, all of my worries were unwarranted, and our run went swimmingly
As a matter of fact, not only did I exceed my expectations for myself, I realized what a positive experience running with a friend is! It was extremely motivating to have someone by my side silently motivating me to run harder and faster, to push my limits, and realize that what I thought were my limits, are actually more conservative than they needed to be. After our run last week, we immediately made plans to run together for our next long run as well, and since then we’ve chatted about how each of us has been doing with the plan on our own. It’s SO nice to train with someone that you can talk to frankly and regularly, because Lord knows my husband is getting tired of hearing about the gory details of distance running.
So, as it turns out, my training buddy and I are a perfect match for one another! Stepping out of my comfort zone yeilds yet another lesson learned!
